Poodle Grooming in Birmingham

The coat that never stops growing, and the local groomers who know it.

Poodles don't shed, their coat just keeps growing, like human hair. That's what makes them a favourite for allergy-conscious households, and it's also why a poodle can't skip the groomer the way a short-coated dog can. No groom means an ever-longer, ever-denser coat that cords and mats. Grooming isn't cosmetic for a poodle; it's basic upkeep.

How Often Do Poodles Need Grooming?

Every 4 to 6 weeks for a clip, with brushing at home several times a week. A poodle kept in a shorter pet trim can sometimes stretch to 6 to 8 weeks; anything in a longer style needs the shorter cycle. Ears and feet grow especially fast, so some owners book a quick face-feet-tail tidy between full grooms, which several Birmingham salons offer (Clipperz does a face and bum trim for £16).

What Poodle Grooming Costs in Birmingham

Poodle typeTypical Birmingham full groom
Toy Poodle£48–£65
Miniature Poodle£45–£65
Standard Poodle£60–£80+

Dog Grooming By Julia in Rubery lists Toy Poodles in her £48 to £65 medium band, and she's groomed poodles for 25 years, which is about as much breed experience as you'll find in the city. Clipperz in Northfield prices Toy Poodles from £51. Standard Poodles fall into most salons' large-breed bands, £50 to £80 across the city; see the full Birmingham price guide for how those bands work.

Pet Trim or Breed Standard?

Most Birmingham pet poodles wear a simple, even pet trim or a teddy-bear-style cut. A true breed-standard trim is specialist work that takes real skill and salon time, so if that's what you want, ask directly whether the salon does breed-standard work. Million Hairs in Kings Norton explicitly grooms to breed standard or pet trim, agreed at consultation, and Plush Puppy Spa in Sutton Coldfield offers breed-standard cuts alongside the teddy bear.

Poodle Puppies: Start Before the Adult Coat Arrives

A poodle's coat changes from soft puppy fluff to the dense adult coat between roughly 9 and 18 months, and it mats worst during the change. Book puppy intro sessions early, £20 to £30 at most Birmingham salons, so the dryer and clippers are old news by the time the adult coat comes in. Our puppy's first groom guide covers what to expect.
